The Department of Chinese Literature was established in June of the 1950s and was one of the fifteen earliest departments established in the school. Professor Gao Ming was the first head of the department, and later professors Wang Zhonglin, Zhang Shouping, Lin Yin, Pan Chonggui, Chen Xinxiong, Li Diankui, Lin Qingxun, Wang Sanqing, Pi Shumin, Jin Ronghua, Luo Jingzhi, You Xinxiong, Liu Zhaoyou, Wang Junyan and others successively chaired the department. The current director is Professor Lai Shenghong. This department was divided into two groups in 1958: literature and art. The courses in the literature group focus on the study and research of classical literature and traditional academics.
The main goal of this department is to inherit and carry forward the inherent culture and academics. The teaching policy is to lay a solid foundation first, to avoid being vain, to teach methods to guide the right path, to learn from the past, to review the past, to learn the new, to inherit the glory of the past, and to create the future. The focus of this department is to deeply understand the literary and academic ideological characteristics of the past dynasties. It has specialized courses such as poetry, poetry, novels, prose, etc., integrating the old and the new to meet the needs of the times. And continue to strengthen the hardware equipment and increase the book collection, which are the current focus of development efforts.
